FERPA
Our commitments under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Many of the districts and institutions we work with are subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). We provide this statement of our data-protection practices to give those clients assurance about how we handle the education records they entrust to us.
To the extent Gnosis IQ receives education records (as FERPA defines that term), the client chooses what information to provide and configures who — staff, students, and guardians — may access it within the platform. In addition, Gnosis IQ commits to the following:
We provide reasonable security for education records and the personally identifiable information they contain. Only employees and agents with a genuine need to know can access them.
We use education records only for the purposes for which they were provided to us, and to improve the usability and effectiveness of our products, services, and systems — never for any unrelated purpose.
We do not disclose education records to third parties except at the direction of the client that provided them to us.
We will consider destroying education records upon the written request of the client that provided them.
In limited circumstances we may decline such a request — for example, where law or a court order requires us to retain the records, where retention is necessary to protect our rights, or where the request extends to backed-up records whose destruction would be unreasonably burdensome.
If you have additional questions about our data-protection practices as they relate to education records, please contact our team at [email protected].
